Powers and Abilities : Vril Dox is a Coluan, and possesses the enhanced intellect common to that species. He has been variously designated as an 11th or 12th level intellect and is one of the smartest beings in the universe. He has some training in the scientific disciplines, but his intellectual capacity is primarily directed to strategy, tactics, and administration. He is a formidable hand to hand combatant as well, and makes use of a variety of weapons and devices.
History : Cloned from the infamous Coluan villain
Brainiac, Vril had a horrible childhood growing up under the watchful eye of the Computer Tyrants of Colu. With the aid of a Durlan that he freed from captivity, Vril was able to attempt escape from that life - only to be recaptured and handed over to the Alien Alliance (the assembled species who targeted
Earth in the events of Invasion!) for imprisonment in their Starlag prison. With some of the prisoners there, Vril was able to escape again, with more lasting success. Banding together with his fellow escapees, they travelled to the planet Cairn, a notorious haven for drugs and vice, and put their talents to use restoring law and order. Inspired by their victory, Vril saw an opportunity for profit and founded the interstellar security group
L.E.G.I.O.N., providing police or security services for client planets, at a hefty fee.
As these events occurred, the
Green Lantern Corps was at its nadir, so the opportunities for an organization like L.E.G.I.O.N. were vast. Vril was able to expand the client list to dozens of worlds. His uncaring, Machiavellian nature grated on many of his senior operatives, though, so he had significant problems with the turnover rate. The flux at the upper levels of the organization was one of the reasons he saw fit to place his abnormally precocious infant son Lyrl in a position of power - a move that would prove to be a huge mistake, as the boy was in fact smarter than his father, and seized control of the organization for a time. Vril's ultimate resolution to the dilemma was to barter with the demon
Neron, exchanging the soul of a future unborn descendant in exchange for regaining control of the organization he founded.
