One of the unique things about the JLA Watchtower RPG is the use of utility journals. A utility journal is a shared resource of the community - and instead of representing one character, it can represent 15 or more. (Fifteen being the number of icon slots in a standard LiveJournal 'Plus' account.) All active members can use a utility journal for the purpose of temporarily roleplaying a character that has no player.
The guidelines for Utility Journals are:
- The e-mail address associated should be the JLA Watchtower Moderator email address.
- The message notification settings for the journal should all be turned off.
- The journal password should be set to the community default utility password.
- The password should not be shared with people who aren't members of the community.
- The moderators should be consulted when creating (or adding icons to) a utility journal - we keep track so as to minimize redundancy.
- Never delete old icons from a utility journal - even if the character in question currently has a player, chances are that the icon was used in older scenes, and the removal of the icon may impair the ability of those older scenes to be read with clarity.
