Powers and Abilities : Ursa possesses the standard suite of Kryptonian abilities, identical to those of
Superman. These abilities include flight, invulnerability, super-strength and super-speed, enhanced sensory powers, freezing breath, and heat vision. She is also a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, even de-powered, and usually wields a laser baton or a polearm as her weapons of choice.
Weaknesses : Like all Kryptonians, Ursa is vulnerable to Kryptonite, a crystalline substance which comes in a variety of forms. She is dependent on yellow solar radiation to maintain her superhuman abilities, and deprived of it for too long she will weaken and eventually lose her abilities temporarily. Red solar radiation, while not directly fatal, can drain the stored solar energy from her cells and leave her weakened or powerless. Ursa cannot see through lead with any of her vision powers. Finally, Ursa, even at the height of her power, is vulnerable to magical and psionic effects and attacks.
History : All of her life, Ursa has felt that she had something to prove. Small in stature, Ursa proved her fierceness by joining Krypton's Military Guild, earning the notice - and eventually the favor - of one of Krypton's most successful officers,
General Zod. Ursa worked her way up to become Zod's second-in-command, and when Zod executed a coup d'état in a mad gamble to save his planet, Ursa sided with her mentor. The coup was unsuccessful, and Ursa was banished to the
Phantom Zone along with General Zod and fellow conspirator Non. Ironically, this banishment saved the trio's life, as shortly after their banishment Krypton was destroyed.
Ursa, Non and Zod have remained imprisoned in the Phantom Zone ever since. She was briefly encountered in a wraithlike form by the Daxamite
M'onel, who observed her desperately screaming "Forgive
me!" repeatedly. It is not known why she was screaming, or who she was pleading to for forgiveness. She has not been seen since.
