Powers and Abilities : Triumph has total mastery over the electromagnetic spectrum. While magnetic manipulation is traditionally the province of brutes like Dr. Polaris or Magenta who are limited to levitating themselves and throwing cars around, Triumph is capable of much greater feats. Demonstrating a finely honed level of control over his ability, Triumph is capable of reading radio waves of just about any type - television, mobile phones, wireless networks, amateur radio, even satellite transmissions, are all as easy for Triumph to read as a book. He is capable of further honing in on specific data, granting him a frightening level of information-gathering prowess.

Triumph also possesses a type of super senses, which he describes as "360 degree hyper senses." Better described as a form of of electromagnetic psychometry, this ability allows Triumph to perceive and interpret in all probability the entire electromagnetic spectrum, allowing him to instinctively sense and counter attacks.

Triumph can control any type of electromagnetic energy, including microwaves, terahertz radiation, infrared, visible light, ultra violet radiation, x-rays, and gamma rays. He can redirect or absorb electromagnetic energy as well - Superman himself admitted that Triumph had the ability to kill him by siphoning the solar energy from his body. He is capable of using this energy offensively, usually as bursts emitted from his hands or his eyes. He can also generate a personal force field around his body, although he must continuously concentrate in order to maintain the field. By manipulating his personal electromagnetic field in relation to Earth's, Triumph is capable of defying the affects of gravity, allowing him to hover in midair and fly. A skilled flier, Triumph is capable of performing complicated actions in midair.

More chillingly still, Triumph is capable of manipulating the bio-electrical current within the human brain, allowing him to control others against their will. He used this ability to take control of Gypsy and the Ray, using them against their wills in his bid to take over the Justice League.

Finally, Triumph possesses superhuman strength, enough to match Superman and manhandle Steel effortlessly..

Weaknesses : For all his great power, Triumph must have a connection to the electromagnetic spectrum in order to access his abilities; cut off from the spectrum, he is powerless.

History : As a child, young William MacIntyre was driven to identify with superheroes through his rejection of his father, a career criminal who had abandoned him and his long-suffering mother. He moved frequently from town to town, never lingering long enough to develop any friendships with his peers, and as a result at a young age felt cut off from others. He grew into an immensely intelligent and analytical introvert, one who had a lot of time on his hands.

When Jimmy MacIntyre was ultimately apprehended, he asked the man who captured him, the superhero Hourman, to visit his son and warn him from walking down his father's path. Young William didn't need a visit from a superhero to tell him that, but Hourman's visit only deepened his fascination with the superhero community, and awakened a deep desire within him to join their ranks. Deciding he wished to become a superhero himself, Will began training himself in both mind and body. By the age of seventeen he had a bodybuilder's chiseled physique, a black belt in martial arts, and working knowledge of science and criminology. At puberty, he began developing superpowers - namely, control over the electromagnetic spectrum, an enormously versatile power which allowed him to access an immense number of different abilities.

Christening himself 'Triumph,' William MacIntyre organized a team made up of fellow superheroes Wonder Woman, the Flash, Hal Jordan, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter - in short, the very first incarnation of the Justice League of America. The Justice League's first mission was the repulsion of an alien invasion fleet, and while the League fought bravely, they were overwhelmed by sheer numbers. In a last-ditch bid for victory, Triumph attacked the alien ships directly, setting off a temporal explosion that absorbed him into a time rift. The timestream- ever self-correcting, repaired itself by wiping William MacIntyre's life from existence. The heroes he had brought together were left with no memory of any contact with him, he himself was trapped in inter-dimensional stasis for over a decade.

During the Zero Hour crisis Triumph was regurgitated back into reality, and quickly sought out the Justice League, having no idea that ten years had gone by. His claims were met with ridicule, so he decided to punch the Tasmanian Devil through a window to show he meant business. Instead, Triumph was attacked, and fought off fought Crimson Fox, the Elongated Man, and Fire easily. Despite this violent confrontation, the JLI eventually decided to give Triumph the benefit of the doubt, though he chafed at following the orders of his former 'subordinate,' the Martian Manhunter, and undermined his authority whenever possible. Triumph's loyalties to the team were further questioned when he allowed the immortal Vandal Savage to escape capture. Savage himself believed Triumph was fascinated by his Machiavellian scheming, and wished to emulate him. Triumph's later actions would prove Savage right.

After Triumph played a mean-spirited practical joke on the Martian Manhunter, he was finally expelled from the JLI. He attempted to prove his worth to the League by taking on the android Amazo single-handedly, but was horribly beaten. Amazo also absorbed Triumph's abilities, leaving William MacIntyre powerless for the first time in his life. He experienced a string of misfortunes from there - dumped by his girlfriend, turned down by 77 universities, and rendered so desperate for money he turned to hawking Justice League memorabilia stolen from headquarters. He was approached by Neron, who offered to restore him to glory. Fearing for his soul, Will turned Neron down. Undeterred, Neron bided his time, waiting until the fallen superhero was at his lowest moment, before appearing to him again, this time in the guise of an imp. This time, William accepted the deal.

Neron kept his word, not only restoring Triumph's powers but also making him more powerful than ever. As Neron caused havok in Keystone City, Triumph contacted his old partners Gypsy and the Ray, taking mental control of his friends, and then directing them to invade the JLA's Watchtower with a cheery "Let's go live on the moon now." After taking out the android Hourman with an electromagnetc pulse, Triumph sat in Superman's meeting room chair, the chair he felt was rightfully his. He plotted to watch as Neron defeated the combined might of the JLA and JSA, and then ride in with his new League to save the day. Reinforcements arrived at the Watchtower in the form of Aquaman, Batman, and Superman, and one by one Triumph defeated them all single-handedly. Only a last-ditch effort by Steel saved the League from defeat.

Humbled once more, Triumph wondered if he might simply apologize and regain favor, but his schemes were cut short by the Spectre, who punished Triumph for his treachery by transforming him into an icy statue, immobile but still aware, unable to move but perfectly able to see everything going on around him. The Spectre would have finished the job, but Zauriel interceded on the fallen hero's behalf, sparing Triumph's life. After the Spectre's departure, the League built a special storage container for Triumph's frozen form, where he has remained ever since.

Divergences : While Triumph's status in canon is debatable, in Watchtower continuity he is still frozen in solid ice, and is currently kept in the depths of the JLA's lunar headquarters. Lkz, Triumph's unlikely benefactor, is in Watchtower continuity simply Neron in one of his many disguises.
