Seriously, Superman's powers vary according to a variety of factors. Most pertinantly, the current distance between the earth and the sun, along with local weather conditions, effect how much solar radiation Superman is able to absorb. This directly effects all of his powers; Superman hovering in the upper atmosphere, away from distractions and focusing on using his super senses can hear and see much more than a Superman in the middle of noisy Metropolis on a cloudy day. Superman has been known to enhance his powers, either with the direct application of solar radiation or through Kryptonian technology; additionally, Superman occasionally develops "new" powers, which usually only last a short while. Clark is unsure why this happens, and the last time he asked someone he learned more about sunspots and string theory than he ever needed to. Ever.
Clark has access to the equipment his parents left him, along with other pieces of alien technology Clark's been able to scavange over the years, though as a scientist Kal-El is a hobbyest at best. Superman's greatist strength is, perhaps, his creativity when it comes to applying his powers and any gadgets; his reputation for near-invincibility owes as much to Clark's gift for finding new and effective ways to use his abilities to solve a given problem as it does to Superman's raw power.
History : A planet of science angel wizards exploded. While this did not stop some fellows from sticking around, for the most part the only survivor was Kal-El, an infant son of a rogue scientist who was rocketed to Earth just before Krypton blew. Clark Kent was a gentle young man who grew up in the nation's heartland, became a writer, and continues to surprise and disturb his coworkers by being married to the scariest woman in the office. Superman is a guy in a red cape and blue tights who fights crime and generally tries to help out. He has nothing to do with Clark Kent.
