Powers and Abilities : Victor Fries is a gifted cryonics specialist. In his criminal career, he employs a 'cold gun' of his own design. Thanks to accidental exposure to cryogenic chemicals, Victor requires abnormally low temperatures to survive. To sustain himself, he wears a refrigerated suit - it not only allows for his survival, it enhances his strength and provides insulated, bulletproof protection.

History : Victor had a lifelong fascination with the science of cryonics, which lead to a career in the field. When his wife, Nora, fell ill, he was able to use his knowledge to put her in a state of suspended animation. Unfortunately, his profit-minded boss tried to shut down Nora's capsule - in the ensuing struggle, Victor was exposed to the chemicals that would change his life forever. Much of his early criminal career was motivated by the desire to find a way to restore Nora's health - bank robberies providing money to conduct research.

One of his run-ins with the Batman, however, put an end to that. Fries's cold gun missed Batman in the heat of battle, and struck Nora's capsule, shattering it. Though he has kept Nora's body frozen since then, the damage done was enough to destroy his hopes of reviving her. He blames the Batman for this final loss of his wife, and seeks to destroy all that Batman cares about.
