Powers and Abilities : Mongul, as a member of the
Sinestro Corps, possesses a Qwardian power ring. The power ring is capable of nearly any function the user can imagine, provided the user has the focus and willpower to direct the ring to enact it. Most commonly, it used to generate solid light constructs that can be used for offense or defense; to gather, record or retrieve data; or to enable the user to traverse hyperspace at faster than light velocities. Mongul also possesses super-strength and a high degree of invulnerability, as well as rigorous combat training and a keen, tactical mind.
History : The son of the original Mongul, he took up his destiny as his father's successor after
Neron slew the original Mongul for refusing to cooperate with
Neron's plans by trading his soul for greater power. He shared their father's center of power with his sister, Mongal, for a time. Mongul worked briefly as an ally to
Earth's heroes, helping to train
Superman for the coming of Imperiex - he was believed dead at the conclusion of the Imperiex War, but has since been revealed to have survived.
Mongul has re-surfaced as one of the 'elite' members of the
Sinestro Corps, acting as a field commander for large numbers of the yellow ring-wielders. In the assault on
Earth, he led the Mt. Rushmore contingent - battling
Donna Troy,
Terra, and
Captain Marvel Jr. until the
Green Lantern Corps arrived to reinforce
Earth. Mongul was one of the
Sinestro Corps members to escape capture in that battle.
Other Sources :Divergences : Diverges at Identity Crisis #1. Notably, the storyline in which he kills his sister is not in Watchtower continuity, though she still may be dead - killed off-camera. In Watchtower, Mongul was one of the original
Sinestro Corps recruits.
