Powers and Abilities : Alan possesses the power of the Starheart, a condensed jewel of chaotic magic. This permits him to create solid-energy constructs, pass unimpeded through matter, enhance his own physical attributes, and fly, amongst other miscellaneous powers. He originally wielded the power via a ring, but has since unified with the Starheart's power - meaning his entire physical being is, on some level, composed of the green flame. That fact seems to have kept him younger and more vital than many of his
JSA peers, though there are mitigating factors for them, as well. The one weakness of the Starheart's power is plant matter - objects made of wood cannot be affected by the green flame, and will easily penetrate Alan's energy constructs. Since he is now unified with the energies of the Starheart, wood may even be more deadly to him than before - though he appears to be able to simply handle wooden objects without ill effects.
History : One of the earliest of the so-called "Mystery Men", Alan Scott (as Green Lantern) was one of the founding members of the
JSA. His discovery of an old, green lantern imbued with the mystical energies of the Starheart had granted him power beyond imagination - power over everything except wood. His affiliation with the team would continue until its dissolution in the face of an increasingly hostile government, and when the team re-formed many years later, he would be at their side again. He disappeared with the
JSA into Limbo, fighting the battle of Ragnarok in a continual cycle, until circumstances allowed them to break free.
When the
JSA reformed, Alan was at the core of the team - happy to give the younger members of the team the benefit of his experience. His children,
Jade and
Obsidian, joined him there.
Alan Scott was apparently killed in battle with
Mordru and his Four Horsemen, dissolving into green flame as he purged himself of
Eclipso's possessive influence. The energies of the Starheart flowed into his daughter,
Jade. She retained those energies until Alan was resurrected, apparently at the hand of his oldest enemy -
Vandal Savage. Using Alan's amnesiac state following the resurrection to his advantage, Vandal had him act as a superhuman agent, gathering components for a plan to create his own island. The
JSA intervened, arresting Savage and restoring Alan's memory - though Savage did get his island, in the end.
Other Sources :Divergences : Alan's history diverges around Identity Crisis #1 - this means his loss of an eye,
Jade's death, and his tenure as White King of Checkmate in the DCU are not in continuity for the Watchtower.
