This is our
Frequently Asked Questions list, primarily intended for the benefit of people who aren't involved in the game as players.
"Hey, where's all the roleplaying?"The JLA Watchtower RPG is hosted on Livejournal. It's a publically readable play-by-post game, and if you want to read what we're doing or what we've done, you can find it at
http://community.livejournal.com/jla_watchtower.
"How can I apply for X?"If you're interested in applying for a character, I recommend first reading up on that character's prior appearances in our game. We're flexible about allowing people to bend a little of our continuity to suit their needs, but it's not like we're going to allow in a version of a character that ignores what we've done entirely. Take a look at the character's page on this Wiki - there should be a 'tag' entry that contains a link to all of that character's appearances in our game. Once you're caught up, take a gander at our
applications page.
"How can I tell if X is available?"There are a couple of ways to do that. You can check the official cast list at the
community info page. Or you can use the tags on this very Wiki. All the characters are tagged for availability. 'Played' means that someone currently plays that character. 'Available' means exactly that. 'NPC' means the character's a special case, and one which we're reluctant to give to an individual player.
Currently,Characters onlylike the Spectre and
Destiny of the Endless fall into that category. There's also 'Retired', but that status only applies to
original characters. If a character does not have an entry on this Wiki, that means he or she is almost certainly available.
"Isn't X supposed to be dead?"Watchtower is based on the DCU comics continuity, but has been running for four years, and in that time, has followed its own path. While we do sometimes adapt stories that DC does to our continuity, it has kind of become its own animal. Thus, many characters who are dead in the DCU are alive in Watchtower. (There are even a few dead in Watchtower that are alive in the DCU.)
"Why don't you play the game on the Wiki?"I realize a lot of RPGs are conducted on Wetpaint, so I thought I'd address this point. The discussion forums here would allow for a play-by-post environment somewhat similar to the one we have on Livejournal, but with four years of history there, we'd need a powerful impetus to leave. Our players are used to the interface, and it definitely has its advantages. (Tags for posts, up to fifteen icons for a character with a free LiveJournal account, and others.) This Wiki serves as an informational resource, and there are no plans to bring the actual gameplay here.
"Why does X's entry have so little information?"Well, we're working on it. Many of our players have joined up here, and some have started or completed full-length articles on the characters they play. Unfortunately, the DCU has hundreds of characters, and many of them have no players in our game - so they're not prioritized as highly as some others. Ultimately, this is a hobby for all of us, and there's only so much time we can dedicate. But we'll keep at it!
"Can I be a Writer?"We've had a few requests from folks to join as writers, and I've been telling them the same thing - at the present time, we're limiting that role to people who are current or former members of the game. I'm sure many of you could help contribute to the Power and Abilities sections for the various characters, but the History and Divergences sections require a good familiarity with our continuity. There's also the fact that we're very new to Wetpaint, and we're still finding our comfort level. However, you can still contribute to the Wiki by adding discussion threads, I believe.
