Powers and Abilities : As Dr. Fate, Hector possesses the Helm of Nabu and the Amulet of Anubis, power mystical talismans that enhance his ability to manipulate mystical energy. His commonly-displayed powers include flight, resistance to energy, and enhanced strength, as well as the ability to perform sorcerous feats such as hurling mystical energy bolts and the transmutation of matter.
The Helm of Nabu contains a pocket dimension within itself - the spirits of previous bearers of Dr. Fate's mantle reside there, as well as Nabu, the powerful Lord of Order who sometimes will greatly influence the behavior of those who wear the helm.
History : Hector Hall was born the son of Carter and Shiera Hall, the Golden Age
Hawkman and Hawkgirl. He and some of the other descendants of the
JSA attempted to the join the team, and were turned down due to their inexperience. They persisted in their ambitions, and when refused a second time, joined with
Power Girl and the Star-Spangled Kid to form the first incarnation of
Infinity Inc. He kindled a romance with
Lyta Trevor, daughter of the Golden Age heroine known as Fury. Hector used an Nth metal suit of his own design to battle crime as the Silver Scarab, but the mystical forces of destiny would cut short his heroic career - he was turned to darkness and battled his teammates alongside Hath-Set, a battle that ultimately cost him his life - leaving Lyta alone, pregnant with his child.
Death was only the beginning, though. Hector began his second heroic career with his death - his spirit recruited by two rogue dreams, Brute and Glob, to act as 'The Sandman' in their pocket dream-world, replacing Garrett Sanford. That incarnation of Hector would come to an end as well, with the return to power of
Dream of the Endless, who reclaimed the rogue dreams, and cast Hector into the realm of the dead - an act which would inspire Lyta to seek vengeance against the Dream King.
As is the case with his parents, Hector is caught in a cycle of reincarnation, and would be reborn into the land of the living - inhabiting the body of the infant son of Hawk (Hank Hall) and Dove II (Dawn Granger). His physical form, the offspring of an agent of Chaos and an agent of Order, provided the perfect host to bear the mantle of Dr. Fate - and Hector's new infant body was aged to adulthood when brought into contact with the Helm of Nabu, to take up the stand against malicious mystical forces at the side of the Justice Society. He would later be reunited with his wife, Lyta, and both now reside at Fate's tower in Salem.
Other Sources :Divergences : Diverges at Identity Crisis #1. Unlike the core DCU, Hector still functions as the current bearer of the mantle of Dr. Fate.
