Powers and Abilities : Despotellis is a sentient biovirus, capable of infecting any living organism. Infection is fatal and the victim usually expires in mere minutes. Despotellis does this by producing non-sentient copies of itself which automatically self-eliminate upon the death of their victim. Despotellis, as a member of the Sinestro Corps, possesses a Qwardian power ring. The power ring is capable of nearly any function the user can imagine, provided the user has the focus and willpower to direct the ring to enact it. Most commonly, it used to generate solid light constructs that can be used for offense or defense; to gather, record or retrieve data; or to enable the user to traverse hyperspace at faster than light velocities.
Weaknesses : Despotellis may be vulnerable to vaccines.
History : Perhaps the deadliest member of the
Sinestro Corps, Despotellis was created in a medical laboratory on the planet Khondra. Khondran scientists, attempting to create the ultimate biological weapon, created an artificial virus, forcing it to evolve rapidly through evolutionary pressure. With each generation, the virus became more and more powerful until, finally, it achieved sentience. Enraged by its unnatural origins, Despotellis unleashed itself on Khondra, wiping out all life on the planet in 24 hours. Despotellis went on to infect 85% of all life in Sector 119, including Reemuz, the
Green Lantern of that sector.
Despotellis's outbreak attracted the attention of
Sinestro, who recruited it to the Sinestro Corps. Despotellis was not present during the recent Sinestro Corps attack on
Oa; it is theorized that it remained behind to defend Qward from attack. Despotellis failed to make an appearance during the counterattack on Qward as well; this is most likely due to the blitz nature of said attack, which was conducted by the
most experienced members of the corps.
