Powers and Abilities : Immense superhuman strength and durability, Super-regenerative capabilities, Capable of producing and expelling almost any kind of hazardous liquid material. Has the ability to form a container of man size up to building size.

History : Chemo was designed by Professor Ramsey Norton as a receptacle for the chemical waste produced by his various scientific experiments. Norton would look upon Chemo as a source of inspiration; the higher the level of chemicals got, the harder he had to try to succeed. Unfortunately, Norton was not a truly gifted scientist, and Chemo became near filled to the brim with toxic produce.

After attempting to create a growth formula that will enlarge plants to help feed starving nations, the scientist again was unsuccessful and poured the remnants of his project into Chemo, finally filling the massive vessel. These chemicals caused a massive reaction that resulted in Chemo coming to life and growing even larger. Chemo proceeded to poison the scientist with a dose of the growth-formula chemicals, along with the various radioactive gloop stored inside it, and then went on a rampage, only to be defeated by Dr Magnus's Metal Men.

What became of Norton after this time is unknown, but it's likely he died after suffering immense radiation poisoning. His death is unrecorded however.

Chemo found, after being dismantled by the Metal Men, that it cannot die. The chemicals inside it have created a bizarre sentience, and even when separated they eventually merge together again, in a similar style to Clayface. Because of this, Chemo has often returned in different forms, usually under the control of a more intelligent being such as Lex Luthor, Brainiac or Gorilla Grodd. This has also led Chemo into conflict with Superman, Supergirl and other such heroes.

Currently Chemo has become a tool for
The Calculator, and combined with that villain's knowledge of technology, Chemo's sentience has become much improved. In the past it would only take commands, but now has the ability to make it's own decisions, and can even converse in very basic terms.

Scarily, Chemo has now become aware of its love of destruction and decay, and is actively trying to spread as much strife as possible. In a recent battle with Infinity Inc. (ironically, commanded by Lex Luthor - one of Chemo's former masters) Chemo badly injured Miracleman with acids and radiation, and damaged a small part of Metropolis by showering it with toxic waste. Chemo was teamed with Dr. Phosphorus during this battle, and its limited sentience recognises a 'kindred spirit'.

Chemo's sentience increased over recent times, as it even played Calculator at chess. It was reawakened for a campaign of destruction by Brainiac, its hidden controller, and successfully wiped out a significant portion of downtown Metropolis before Superman (with the help of many other heroes) managed to fly Chemo through the atmosphere, finally launching the container into outer space.

Other Sources :

Divergences : Chemo was, in canon material, dropped on Blüdhaven by Deathstroke the Terminator and other villains. This resulted in the deaths of thousands. Since then, Chemo rejoined the Suicide Squad (under the mental influence of Amanda Waller) and has appeared on the Salvation planet with other villains. These events did not take place in Watchtower's continuity.
