Powers and Abilities : Querl Dox is a brilliant genius, recognized as the smartest individual on Colu where the average person's intellect outstrips Earth's geniuses. He is considered to have a 12th level intellect, meaning he can maintain twelve completely independent trains of thought at one time. He is a competent hand to hand combatant, and utilizes a number of technological devices to aid him in his efforts. He can be considered an expert in every known field of science. Like all Legionnaires, he utilizes a Legion Flight Ring, enabling him to fly.
History : The planet Colu is a haven for scientists and intellectuals, but generally favors theoretical approaches to the practical. Brainiac Five, as their greatest genius, would have been considered an asset to be treasured and sheltered, but for the fact that his preference for practical research would often result in explosions and major disruptions to the orderly Coluan way of life. When the
Legion of Super-Heroes was formed, and member worlds of the United Planets were invited to send representatives, Brainiac Five became the natural choice to represent Colu.
Brainiac Five has had many adventures with the Legion, and has proven himself a valuable member of the team, even if his manner is churlish and his methods unorthodox. He has maintained a professional rivalry with Lyle Norg, AKA
Invisible Kid, whose capacity for lateral thinking has proven itself equal to the task of compensating for Brainiac Five's technically superior intelligence. Exposure to a space anomaly on one of the Legion's missions enhanced Querl's ability to empathize with his teammates, but he remains prickly, at the best of times.
He became trapped in the 21st century (for the second time, in fact) while on a routine time exploration mission. Disruptions in the timestream stranded him on Earth, and when the disruptions had passed, his efforts to return to his future home were hampered by the revelation that the future had changed - there was no home left to go to. He settled in at Titans Tower, conducting research to benefit mankind and continuing his own temporal experiments - one of which would lead to the discovery that members of his version of the Legion were still alive, and trapped outside time. He was able to rescue
Triad and Invisible Kid before the temporal prison that held the rest of the team was changed to adapt to his techniques.
Until recently, he, Lyle, and
Triad resided on the original Justice League satellite, substantially rebuilt and refurbished to allow the Legion to have their own research space, and they resumed their efforts to rescue their other colleagues. One of those efforts bore mixed results - Lyle was able to rescue
Karate Kid (Val Armorr), but Val appeared to be under the mental influence of
Mordru. This lead to the discovery of Mordru's plot to re-shape time, and Querl, Val, Lyle, and Luornu lead a team of heroes to the Rock of Eternity to recuse the rest of their comrades and defeat the sorcerer. They were subsequently able to return to their own time, but left behind a time beacon - to prevent future difficulties, should they visit this era.
Other Sources :Divergences : This is the Brainiac Five of the post-Zero Hour Legion. He, and a few of his comrades, were stuck in the 21st century in Watchtower continuity, for a prolonged period.
Note : Brainiac Five's previous player was suspended from LiveJournal, along with all of his journals. As a result, many of Brainiac Five's prior appearances in the community were damaged, and aren't readable. We have the posts preserved in an archive, however, and a zip file containing many of those posts has been attached to this Wiki entry.
