Powers and Abilities : Blackfire is a Tamaranean, naturally capable of absorbing ultraviolet radiation. This radiation is constantly absorbed and converted into energy which she can project from her hands as destructive "starbolts." Blackfire also has superhuman strength and durability matching that of her sister
Starfire. An adept hand-to-hand combatant, Blackfire is a brilliant tactician and ruthless leader.
Weaknesses: Unlike most Tamaranians, Blackfire does not possess the ability to fly.
History : Eldest child of the Tamaranian royal family, Komand'r was the first princess born in over a hundred years. Her birth was marked by tragedy - born without the ability to fly, she was looked upon as a cripple by her people. But worse, much worse, on the day she was born the Citadel Empire attacked her world and destroyed an entire city, murdering three thousand citizens in her name. Though she had nothing to do with the massacre, her name was a curse before she was old enough to walk. Her younger sister
Koriand'r received her family's praise, her people's love, and her society's favor, while Komand'r was shunned. As a result she grew bitter, coming to hate her people and her sister.
This hatred came to a head when the sisters began warrior training under the warmasters of Okaara. Komand'r seized a moment of opportunity to attempt to kill her sister and was expelled in disgrace. Swearing vengeance, Komand'r betrayed her people to the Citadel Empire, who had foreseen her rise as their champion. With her aid, the Citadel conquered Tamaran, negotiating a peace treaty that included the stipulation that Koriand'r be given to the Citadel as a slave. Komand'r became her sister's master and tortured her for years, hoping to drive her sister insane. When Koriand'r fought back and killed one of her sister's subordinates, Komand'r decided to execute her. Before this execution could be carried out, both sisters were captured by the Psions.
The Psions subjected the sisters to an experiment to determine how much solar energy they could absorb before overloading. Komand'r's forces came to her rescue and in the confusion, Koriand'r broke free and rescued her sister as well. Expecting gratitude, Koriand'r was instead struck down by her sister, who had her recaptured. Fortunately for Kory, she was able to break free and escape in a spaceship, fleeing to
Earth and joining the
Teen Titans.
Komand'r later clashed with her sister, who was now calling herself Starfire, and began calling herself Blackfire in response. She has been a major player in the Rann-Thanagar war, stoking the conflict covertly for her own ends.
