Powers and Abilities : The Stamina of Shu, the Swiftness of Heru, the Strength of Amon, the Wisdom of Zehuti, the Power of Aton, the Courage of Mehen. Black Adam possesses enhanced strength, speed, and durability, and the capability to fly. The wisdom of Zehuti grants him mystic knowledge and some enhanced senses, and the courage of Mehen grants him resistance to mental influences and some magical effects. As the monarch of
Kahndaq, Adam also wields considerable political and military power in the Middle East.
History : Once known as Mighty Adam, his story began as a hero in the ancient Middle East. He was the champion of the sorcerer,
Shazam, and used his divine empowerment to seek justice. All that changed when his wife and children were murdered by Ahk-ton, a predecessor of
Metamorpho, and a minion of
Vandal Savage. Adam's rage and desire for revenge caused him to lose sight of justice, and
Shazam was forced to strip Adam of his powers and emprison them. Years later, a conniving archaeologist named Theo Adam would uncover a scarab containing Adam's power, and would learn to use them as the villainous Black Adam.
Teth-Adam's influence was strong, however, and began to push back against the mind of Theo Adam. Ultimately, it was Teth-Adam's mind which seized control, abandoning his host's villainous ways and reforming, even joining the
JSA for a time. The anger still burned within him, though - particularly for his homeland,
Kahndaq, which languished under the heel of an oppressive dictator. He broke with the Justice Society and gathered allies of his own, and led a bloody coup to reclaim the land of his birth.
Today, he is the undisputed ruler of
Kahndaq, assisted by Albert Rothstein, AKA
Atom Smasher. Recently, after
Shazam's apparent death, young
Billy Batson assumed the mantle of the caretaker of the powers of
Shazam, and he has once again made Black Adam the champion of
Shazam. Thus it fell to him to rescue Billy when
Mordru captured
the Rock of Eternity - he was unsuccessful, thanks to the intervention of two of
Mordru's mind-controlled servants, and he was captured. When an army of superheroes assaulted the Rock, Adam was set free and, regaining his powers, he helped to defeat the sorcerer before returning to Kahndaq.
Recently he sent
Brainwave to recruit
Jericho to his forces.
