Powers and Abilities : Atom Smasher possesses enhanced strength and durability, both of which increase when he uses his size and density powers to grow. His maximum safe height when using his growth powers is approximately 50 to 60 feet. He used to be able to lower his density, becoming intangible, but has not used those powers in recent continuity.
History : Albert is the godson of Al Pratt, the original Atom, and the grandson of a World War 2 era villain known as Cyclotron. Along with other descendants of the
JSA, Albert was a founding member of
Infinity Incorporated, using the codename 'Nuklon'. Later, he would join an incarnation of the
JLA, along with fellow Infinitor,
Obsidian. Ultimately, he found a home with the latest incarnation of the Justice Society of America.
He began to take a darker turn, though, when his mother was killed on an airplane by one of Kobra's terrorist attacks. Later, he was given the chance to save her, via time travel, and he did so, allowing the villain Extant to die in her place. When the reformed villain
Black Adam briefly joined the
JSA, he and Albert felt a kinship, and came to regard one another as brothers. When
Black Adam subsequently left the team, planning to reclaim his homeland of Kahndaq, Albert went with him and assisted in the coup, ultimately executing Kahndaq's dictator.
Atom Smasher currently serves as
Black Adam's second in command, in Kahndaq, and he is somewhat estranged from his former teammates in the Justice Society, who disapprove of his choice to kill.
