Powers and Abilities : Anarky is a normal human who compensates for his lack of superpowers with a brilliant knack for engineering and computer technology, and he has created a wide variety of inventions and gadgets. His equipment is low-tech and often improvised in nature, with the singular distinction of often incorporating the circle-A symbol into them. Anarky typically is equipped with flare guns, swing lines, A-shaped throwing stars, wick-fuse explosives, gas-bombs, and smoke bombs. His primary weapon of choice is a golden staff which can deliver powerful electric shocks and is equipped with a built-in grappling hook.
Anarky is a cunning strategist, having once defeated
Batman with nothing more than a hologram projector. He is adept at psychological warfare and frequently pits his enemies against one another. He has strong ties to the homeless community of
Gotham City as he lives among them and he can always count on their support. Finally, Anarky has received some martial arts training, enough to be formidable in hand-to-hand combat.
History : A brilliant young man, Lonnie Machin developed an anarchist philosophy early in life, a philosophy which only grew more entrenched as he saw more and more of the corruption in
Gotham City. After trying and failing to gain the notice of
Batman through ads in the newspaper, Lonnie decided to act himself, responding to complaints in the Gotham newspapers about water pollution. Donning his signature costume and creating an improvised cache of weapons, Lonnie went after the sources of the pollution: namely, the owner of the factory. It was here that Lonnie first came into conflict with Batman.
Batman managed to defeat Lonnie and he was sent to a juvenile detention center, but Lonnie's brilliant mind could not tolerate confinement for long, and he escaped. Having been disowned by his parents, Lonnie took refuge among Gotham City's homeless, taking the name of Anarky and acting for what he perceived to be the greater good of Gotham City. He created the cyberidentity of Moneyspider, stealing millions of dollars from corporations and funneling it to third world nations. He has come into conflict with several heroes, including
Robin,
Red Robin,
Spoiler, and both
Green Arrows. After his last misadventure, Lonnie has gone to ground, working in isolation and having not been seen in Gotham for several months.
Other Sources :Divergences : In the DCU, Anarky's status is unknown; he has not been seen in Gotham in several months and his identity as Anarky has since been usurped by
the Adversary. He may be deceased.
