Powers and Abilities : Amazo possesses synthetic 'absorption cells' which allow him to duplicate the unusual powers of those around him. This ability seems to be able to replicate metahuman abilities and the natural powers of alien species. He is also often equipped with replicas of an Oan power ring and
Wonder Woman's golden lasso. These devices are formidable, but not exact copies of the originals. He is an android, with the attendant abilities and weaknesses thereof; for example, he does not require sleep, but he can be vulnerable to attacks that especially affect machines.
History : The original Amazo android was constructed by Professor Ivo to defeat the
JLA. It demonstrated all their powers and techniques, but was ultimately defeated. Undeterred, Ivo would rebuild Amazo after each defeat, improving on the design, but the result was always the same. The android presented a formidable challenge to the various incarnations of the League, but could not bring about their ultimate doom.
Amazo has sometimes been depicted as going after the Justice League of his own volition, and at other times, appears less independent and more of an accessory to Ivo's whims. More recently, it has been revealed that there is more than one copy of the Amazo android - it is possible that one of them has developed an independent intellect. An independent-seeming Amazo fought with the third
Hourman, gaining temporal powers - but this variant of Amazo was apparently completely destroyed. In any form, Amazo is a threat to the world, and a threat to the Justice League in particular.
